I Have Mixed Waste…Which Bin Do I Use?

February 4th, 2010 by The BookaBin Australia Bin Hire Team

Many customers contact bookabin to find out which bin to order because they have a mixture of waste.

If you have less than a wheelbarrow of soil or concrete, a similar amount of green garden waste and general junk from around the house, this can all be mixed in a general waste bin.

If you have more than a wheelbarrow of clean fill type waste as well as other bits and pieces, we often suggest two smaller bins for different waste types, rather than a large general waste bin, as you can reach the weight limit fairly quickly if you have more than a wheelbarrow of dirt or concrete.

The bin types available are:

General Waste: (suitable for light domestic and commercial waste) - NOT suitable for clean fill as it is too heavy, typically anything involved with a “general clean up around the house and section” that is neither liquid nor hazardous waste. The weight limit on this bin is 150kg per 1 cubic meter (eg: 3cm weight limit is 450kg)

Clean Fill / Hardfill: (soil, clay, sand, concrete, asphalt, brick, rock, tiles, etc) There is no weight limit on this bin because of the heavy nature of the waste.

Green Garden Waste: (leafy green garden waste) - NOT suitable for clean fill, as green waste is disposed of differently, use this bin if you have any of the following: Grass, leaves, tree trimmings, small branches and other organic materials. The weight limit on this bin is 150kg per 1 cubic meter (eg: 3cm weight limit is 450kg)

Soil / Dirt: (100% pure soil / dirt only - no turf or contaminants) the cost of disposing of the pure soil is cheaper than if it is contaminated with other waste, if you mix other waste with the soil you will be charged additional fees as the disposal is more expensive. There is no weight limit on this bin because of the heavy nature of the waste.

Hazardous waste cannot be placed in any skip bin. This includes TV’s, monitors, fridges, paints, solvents, liquids or any asbestos. To dispose of any of these materials you need to contact your local council. They will be able to provide you with a contact who can dispose of anything hazardous or not accepted in your skip bin (i.e. food waste).

Use the LIVE CHAT function on the website to ask any questions you may have regarding which type of bin is best for your needs.

Coming soon - NEW WASTE TYPE SKIP BIN FOR HIRE

October 29th, 2009 by The BookaBin Australia Bin Hire Team

Recently we have had customers looking to get rid of pure Soil / Dirt waste. Bookabin has listened to your feedback and will be adding the following new waste type in some serviced areas:

Soil / Dirt skip bin: 100% pure soil / dirt (no turf or contaminants)

Due to disposal options, and to keep the price low for this type of waste bin, no other waste can be mixed in this skip. If by chance there is other waste in the bin it will cost the suppliers more to dispose of the waste and additional charges will apply to the customer.

If you are interested in finding out how much it will cost to hire a Soil / Dirt skip bin, please enter your postcode at www.bookabin.com.au. The website will present you with the waste types available in your area.

In Case You Didn’t Know…

August 30th, 2009 by The BookaBin Australia Bin Hire Team

There is a difference when selecting which bin to hire.  If you have light domestic and/or commercial waste, you should be selecting a ‘General Waste’ bin.  If you have cleanfill, you should be selecting a ‘Cleanfill’ bin.  Please do not try to order a General Waste bin if you have cleanfill to dispose of as this will disrupt the service of your bin.  As a friendly reminder, we have included this note within the waste type descriptions.

Changes To Our Website!

December 4th, 2008 by The BookaBin Australia Bin Hire Team

www.bookabin.com.au has undergone a tiny change.

Due to customer feedback, we have made a change to our Waste Type notifications. The change should make it clearer to our customers when they are choosing which type of skip bin they require. The notification now reads:

General Waste (suitable for light domestic and commercial waste)
Clean fill / Hard fill Waste (soil, clay, brick, rock, tiles, etc)
Green Garden Waste (biodegradable, organic garden waste)

Please note there is a weight limit of 150kg per cubic meter on General Waste Skip Bins, for example if you order a 3m your limit is 450kg.

Remember our LIVE CHAT function if you have any questions we can help you with!

Innovative Technology!

November 20th, 2008 by The BookaBin Australia Bin Hire Team

Ok, maybe we are a little bias, but we think our website www.bookabin.com.au is quite simply a great example of innovative technology.

It has the ability to produce instant quotes for our customers and gives them the ability to place a skip bin order online without having to speak to anyone!

Live Chat is one such nifty feature of www.bookabin.com.au. It allows people searching for skip bin hire to contact us directly and ask questions before they book their bin. One of the main questions asked is about the suitability of bin types for different waste and whether it can all be mixed in one bin. For example:

Q: Hello, I have a mixture of concrete, soil, sand, clay, rocks, rubble, bricks, sand, asphalt, ceramic tiles, leaves, tree trimmings, small branches and some general rubbish from around the house what bin type do I need to dispose of all of this? Can I mix it all in a general waste bin?

A: You will need a clean fill bin for the concrete, soil etc – you cannot dispose of this in any other bin. Your green waste can be mixed with your general waste in a general bin (can’t put general waste in a green bin or a clean fill bin). You would be best to order two smaller bins, one for your clean fill and one for your general/green waste mix.

Please be aware there is a weight limit on a general waste bin of 150kg per cubic metre, so keep this in mind when filling it with heavier objects as excess weight does incur a fee from the supplier.

Hopefully this information will help with your skip bin planning. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us by clicking on the LIVE CHAT icon at www.bookabin.com.au and we will be happy to help!
